Theory of Writing

Writing is a form of expression, and up until now, I have realized how crucial it is to know how to express them properly. Writing is beautiful, the idea of writing and getting your thoughts and opinions on paper is a wonderful thing to be able to do. One can write whatever comes to mind and transfer their thoughts freely. Throughout the past few months, I have learned multiple ways to analyze and interpret a writer’s intention with their purpose in writing. As I personally took an interest in the topic of sexual abuse, I came across several challenges in trying to express what I had learned on my topic.
Now before I get further into my theory, I would like to state that I was, in fact, terrible at being able to organize my ideas, even now, I am scattered and seemingly hoping to get to my point. As I completed my previous assignments, I first did what I always do, write down my thoughts and opinions. I thought it was okay to go into depth without evidence of my topic, but I eventually learned to drop that bad habit and focus on finding my sources.

Looking back into previous assignments I had worked on, such as my sourced based essay, I had originally believed that being able to find sources on one topic can be pulled off a few nights before the deadline. I had no clue that the time and dedication needed to be able to get your main purpose across successfully would take such prestige time. Being able to write down things can be simple but being able to organize them is key. However, you choose to portray your message depends on your audience your tone and its purpose is where the real challenge is at.

When considering expressing my ideas on behalf of sexual abuse and share their stories, I believed it was appropriate to use a story-like format to share their stories. To capture their emotions on paper and express that to the readers would be considered successful. Writing about these survivors and being able to allow them to share their stories to spread awareness can be a coping mechanism for them. Learning to analyze other articles and academic journals to integrate into your own writing was very useful. Using rhetorical devices to thoroughly capture another author’s purpose in writing, not only strengthens your own writing but over time allows you to have better understandings and connections between a topic.

When writing my inquiry-based essay, I learned from my peers that it is very important to keep your work organized. You can write down your thoughts all you want, but if it is not organized properly, your message would not come out clearly. Without this important piece, you can potentially risk how your audience perceives your writing.

I thought that writing was just a means of paperwork or possibly just a means to be able to spread information no matter what. I was not aware of the process that authors and writers had to go through to perfect their pieces. I was possibly ignorant of realizing the beauty of writing. Little by little, up until this assignment, I found writing valuable. It took a while, but I came to realize how important it was in helping get a message across.

One of the assignments that stuck with me the most would have to be sourced based essay. Doing personal interviews as a part of my writing not only made me realize how important it is to include these kinds of sources, but it also made me realize that these kinds of interviews can just as easily lose their value if you don’t know how to properly apply them to you’re writing. I’m this case you don’t want that to occur.

A few months ago, I would consider writing just as a requirement for an English class and pay little mind to all of the little things that led up to a potential good writing piece. Now, after completing these few assignments, I have a better understanding of what I should focus on more and how to I could slowly improve. I grasped onto this topic and little by little my drive for learning has increased.

Writing assignments were also persistent in many of my other classes and learning to analyze content has helped me make stronger connections. Being able to understand and explain a topic using rhetorical devices had made it so much easier for the readers to understand what I’m trying to get across. Recently I was told to reflect upon a series of architectural lectures done by several people and throughout the reflection, I caught myself following a similar format of writing that I had recently started using. Not only did it help me organize my thoughts better but my writing sounded coherent and analytical.

Overall in order to have properly written in a way you would want to you would first have to, of course, consider that the audience is the main component. Everything depends on the audience and how the tone of your writing is important. Learning how to properly do these things and really understand the level of importance to each piece has guided me a long way and will continue to do so in future assignments. For now, as I just begin the topic of sexual abuse, I would soon hope to expand my knowledge on this and be able to spread more information and resolutions.
